The module does not provide an option to specify a rel attribute for download links. This is particularly useful for improving accessibility and security, especially when the download links are opening in a new tab which is already an option.
Provide a configuration setting to allow users to specify valid rel values, these should be enough: nofollow, noopener, noreferrer.
Add a fieldset of checkboxes in the field formatter to select which values to be added to the rel attribute.
