I am having some of the same issues with the book transversal links not appearing as mentioned in post https://www.drupal.org/project/book/issues/3475664 🐛 Book Navigation Block Not Appearing Active
Book transversal menu appears only for pages of type 'book' but not my child pages of type 'page_with_ratings'
I had these problems with 2.0.0-alpha5, but decided to try 3.0.x-dev but they remain.
I am submitting as a support request, but please elevate if this is a remaining bug.

I don't believe that there is a 'depth' limit for book pages. My book has chapters and sections. The chapters are page type 'book' and the sections are page type 'page with ratings'. Many of the section pages are blank because the important content are the comments that are added as the section content. But I don't believe that is the issue because the same behavior is occurring on the non-blank sections.
