Currently we are using the Media Bulk Upload → module with the Media Duplicates → module.
This module sounds like it might be a better replacement for several of our primary use cases. It sounds from the module description that it already incorporates some kind of checksum to detect and disallow duplicates?
Is there any sort of notification for duplicates detected when processing or after?
What happens if a duplicate is detected, but potentially is a non-compressed version of the image? For example, some social media strip exif data upon upload. What would happen if:
Ideally, the extra metadata information would still be captured?

As you could get testing the module and inspecting its code,
at the moment the check for duplicates in this module is only based on media file names,
on the basis of this MediaLibraryImporterService::mediaEntityExists method:
