This discussion is continuing in the similar thread - https://www.drupal.org/project/better_social_sharing_buttons/issues/3480... 💬 Similar module - Social Media Links Active . I think it would be great for this module's maintainer to weigh in.

Hi @w01f, thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear you're testing out the module on some new sites. I’d be really interested to hear about your experience and how it compares to AddtoAny once you've had a chance to dive in.
I also appreciate the mention of Better Social Sharing Buttons and the distinction between the two types of social sharing. It could definitely be helpful to clarify that for newcomers, so they better understand the difference between “Informative” sharing (linking to social media profiles) and “Sharing” (allowing users to share content directly).
The Better Social Share Drupal module enhances social sharing on the website without relying on third-party integrations like AddThis or AddToAny. It optimizes native sharing methods from popular social media platforms for a smoother, more efficient experience. With the supported social media platforms and extensive customization options, it helps expand reach and improve content sharing across online communities. Additionally, we can place the sharing blocks on pages or nodes to allow users to easily share the current page on social media.

Fantastic response and information, thanks @sujan-shrestha! I am continuously testing and may even make a blog post breaking down some of the same information =)

After more testing, I think I misunderstood Better Social Sharing Buttons → . I now think it is also of the "Sharing" type, which would leave the Social Media Links Block and Field → module as the only "Information" type. Can you verify this is your impression as well before I update the ticket and other places this is posted?
So then do Better Social Sharing Buttons → and your module, Better Social Share → , essentially do the same thing? Is there room for discussion on merging and reducing duplication of effort, or do they provide incompatibly different features?
In part I'm asking because I noticed one of my friends Martin is a maintainer of the former, and would love to have two great minds working together if possible on the "same" product.

Thanks David! Better Social Sharing Buttons and Better Social Share do seem to overlap in functionality, with both focusing on social sharing. However, Better Social Share offers more extensive customization, such as supporting over 100 social media platforms, including major networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Pinterest. It also allows for flexible integration into content entities, letting you configure sharing options from the manage display interface or embed sharing blocks on pages.
In terms of customization, Better Social Share gives you control over which icons are displayed, their order, and the ability to configure these settings with a "more" button that reveals additional social media icons, their placement, and other display settings. Plus, you can fine-tune the appearance of the icons with size and color adjustments, and use custom Twig for custom layouts, CSS, and JavaScript to enhance functionality.
These features might make Better Social Share more flexible compared to Better Social Sharing Buttons, depending on the level of customization needed. Additionally, I’d welcome any new feature suggestions or improvements that could enhance the product further!
