Make advanced search components discoverable by user

Created on 9 October 2024, about 1 month ago

Problem/Motivation

In advanced search for issues the selection of components is a long list consisting of apparently different categories of items. Each category seems to be sorted alphabetically but this may result in the list as a whole not being sorted correctly.

This affects especially Drupal Core issues, since the core fist has multiple systems a-z and then multiple modules a-z and then something else. Looking at the systems being alphabetical the user might not be able to find the correct component if the issue is about a module.

Proposed resolution

Options
a) sort everything alphabetically as a single list of options
b) keep sorting as is, but add a description explaining the order of items
c) make the select list searchable, something similar to select2 (IMO best)
