After the wse_menu rewrite from #3473359, I found that some menu tree operations are still not correct (rebuilding the tree in a workspace and publishing the workspace), so I wrote a couple of Drush commands to help me visualize the changes done to the menu tree.
The following commands should provide all the necessary details:
drush list --filter=wse-menu
drush help wse-menu:dump-tree
drush help wse-menu:dump-tree-image
