When an error is thrown the status is never updated

Problem/Motivation

Whenever an error occurs, the status is never changed.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Add some items to the queue
  2. Have the worker return a 500

Proposed resolution

We should set the status as we go and properly handle the error status.

  1. Write Patch
  2. Write tests maybe?
