Have a supported version

Created on 1 August 2024, 8 months ago

There is currently no supported full release version of this module, leaving users with red warning messages on their module update pages. I feel that 3.1.x should continue to be supported as least until 4.0.0 has a full release. Perhaps there should be an overlap period as well to allow for migration.

I'd like that too but I can't support the 3x version and the previous module maintainers are no longer working on it. 4x is definitely far more stable and does not rely on a house of cards of patches:

    1. Contains the vast majority of patches and fixes from the issue queue merged in
    2. Thorough automated test coverage added for all
    3. Proper support for markup in footnotes

Really all that is left is to get a bit more feedback & support in the paste from word / libre office functionality as it's too new for me to mark as stable. If you could have that would be a good place - any contributions to improving paste coverage would be appreciated (and there is a framework set up for automated test coverage of clipboard similation as well so it should be easier).

Sorry I cannot be more helpful here, I have been putting a lot of time into getting 4x good over the last half year or so but i can't also do 3x and also maintain a number of other modules. Contributions to get 4x to stable release appreciated!

I updated 🌱 Roadmap to stable 4x branch Active with some more details, hopefully that helps people coming across this! Thanks!

I understand the challenge. If you don't have the capacity, that is fine. Best to focus on the new version. Marking the branch supported doesn't mean that you have to do active development. It would be enough to only address any security issues that arise. It might be nothing at all.
