The current version (8.x-1.x) is kept in sync with 7.x-3.x, so localize.drupal.org can be easily upgraded to Drupal 10+
This way of keeping the old code alive block new features and improvements.
To get around this problem I like to suggest a new major version.
Take any issue with a feature request, it is still open.
