Initial field configuration fails and AJAX error produced

Problem/Motivation

Field configuration doesn't work. When selecting Reference Method, form does not appear and error is produced:

Error: Call to a member function getTargetEntityTypeId() on null in Drupal\dependent_fields\Plugin\EntityReferenceSelection\ViewsSelection->buildConfigurationForm() (line 418 of /var/www/html/estatecompliance.com.au/web/modules/contrib/dependent_fields/src/Plugin/EntityReferenceSelection/ViewsSelection.php).

Steps to reproduce

Create a taxonomy entity reference field and select "Make field dependant using views" in Reference Method field
