Add Entity view blocks with view mode to use with Layout Builder

Paraphrased

As a landing page editor
I want to be able to choose an individual .. content item to be placed in sections
And choose the view mode of it.

As a landing page editor
I want to be able to choose multi-content items to be placed in sections
And choose the view mode of them and number of items, and filters ( sort, ex.. )

Proposed resolution

Using the native CTools Views block in layout builder is so buggy and the query breaks the page.
The style of allowed filters or arguments in CTools Views is not the easy part to work with ( As an Editor or Landing Page Editor )

  • Create a module named Varbase Entity View Block
  • Create a Entity View block type
  • Have a field_entities as an autocomplete entity reference for content ( Any Content Type )
  • Have a field_view_mode with a drop down list to be able to select the view mode for chosen content
