MaxLength for multiple fields combined

Problem/Motivation

Would it be possible to have multiple (eg 3) text fields on a node and they all together have one MaxLength.

Example: if the MaxLength of the selected fields is 100.
Field A 21 chars
Field B 39 chars
Field C 40 chars
Also each one could have the max number of characters when the others have zero.

It would be a great addition to required forms and form steps.
