In making the transition from files to media, I am noticing that it would be nice to be able to set the file directory on the media field config instances.
For example, my project has 10 different image directories that hold the images, and I would prefer not to have to create a media type for each directory, but since the directory is set on the file, there is no alternative I see OOTB.
Add a setting to the media field type that lets the user set (or override) the file path used on the file itself.
Approve the concept and implement it.
Optional override of the file directory.
