Please create dev snapshot of 2.x branch, enable automated testing

The 2.x branch needs a dev snapshot and then enable automated testing on this branch. This will allow people to more readily indicate that their issues are for this branch, and will trigger the test coverage to at least see if their merge request is likely to work.
