Fences template simply not being used?

Problem/Motivation

Enabled fences. Configured it for a single term reference field on a single display mode. It's not doing anything.

Should i be seeing Fence's field.html.twig template as a suggestion in the Twig debug output regardless? What's my first step in debugging?

Currently the template suggestions are shown as:

FILE NAME SUGGESTIONS:
   * field--node--field-program-codes--lending-institution.html.twig
   * field--node--field-program-codes.html.twig
   * field--node--lending-institution.html.twig
   * field--field-program-codes.html.twig
   * field--entity-reference.html.twig
   x field.html.twig

And it is using themes/contrib/classy/templates/field/field.html.twig which can't be that unusual?

Thanks!

    OK what we need here is a release and documentation.

    The issue "Not working with your contrib / custom theme?" is fixed, but there isn't a release yet with that fix yet, so we need that, and then documentation updated to provide the option to "Override the field template for all themes." or to copy over fences module's field template to your custom theme.

    Thanks @mlncn you're right, the documentation should be updates on the module page and the README.md to reflect the latest possibilities and settings. Could you prepare something perhaps?
