Problem/Motivation

I'm not sure this is already possible in core and can be simply exposed in the UI, but this module that's doing it by adding configuration might be a useful reference: required_by_form_mode →

    Actually I just noticed that if the base field is required and you override it, it's not shown as required anymore, which is a bug.
    In the case of entity reference fields this affects the listed options as well, by showing the impossible "N/A" selection when the widget is "Check boxes/radio buttons".
