Field settings screen breaks when the content type has a entity reference field with views handler

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create an entity_reference field with which uses a views results as a reference method
2. Create a powertagging field on that content type
3. Edit the field settings, the following error comes up:

TypeError: array_filter(): Argument #1 ($array) must be of type array, null given in array_filter() (line 521 of modules/contrib/powertagging/src/Plugin/Field/FieldType/PowerTaggingTagsItem.php).
