Offering to co-maintain Elasticsearch Connector

Created on 25 January 2024, 5 months ago
Updated 26 March 2024, 3 months ago

My client is using the elasticsearch_connector module, and wants me to help update it to support Elasticsearch 8.x (i.e.: 📌 Support ElasticSearch 8 Active ), and update the 8.0.x branch to support Drupal 10. I would like to help make elasticsearch_connector easier to maintain as I do this work.

I am happy to contribute code, help in the issue queue, writing documentation, etc. and I am open to becoming a co-maintainer of elasticsearch_connector.

I have experience connecting Drupal to Apache Solr, and Salesforce. I enjoy writing tests with PHPUnit and Behat, and automating things with GitLab CI. I have been working with Drupal since 2009, as a back-end developer, site builder, and front-end developer, and I have a small amount of DevOps experience as well. Please see my user profile → for more information on my past contributions.

Thank you for considering me!

Thank you for offering @mparker17, I'm not the maintainer, but looking into the status of this module. The ES 7 eol date may be as soon as this August, and from what I've seen, there is no progress on the 8.x-8.0.x version of this module. Which is sorely needed.

I'm the only active mainer for elasticsearch_connector and I don't have required privileges to add co-maintainers. I'm happy to second mparker17 as co-maintainer, he has been very active on work to get this module to support Elasticsearch v8.

I contacted skek using the following message.

    Hello Nikolay,

I am contacting you because M Parker ( https://www.drupal.org/u/mparker17 → ) offered to co-maintain Elasticsearch Connector ( https://www.drupal.org/project/elasticsearch_connector → ), a project for which you are maintainer and project owner.
May you post a comment on https://www.drupal.org/project/projectownership/issues/3417016 → about accepting or declining the offer? Without a comment posted in that issue in the next 14 days, Nikolay will be probably made co-maintainer.

Drupal.org site moderators / project moderators will not change the existing maintainers/co-maintainers nor the project owner. Co-maintainers cannot change the existing maintainers/co-maintainers. Maintainers cannot change the project owner.

I am contacting every person who can add maintainers/co-maintainers for that project. In this case, that is just you.

    Best regards,
    Alberto Paderno

    Thanks @apaderno.

For what it's worth, I did try to reach out to @skek using his contact form on January 25th, 2024, but have not yet received a response.

    Hello everyone!
Sorry for the late response from my side.
At the moment, this module have quite many maintainers so before I extend this further I want to contact first the rest and see if they are not interested to support the module further so we can replace someone from the old module maintainers with you @mparker17.
In meanwhile I can see you are working with @sokru on the issues, so please use the issue queue and the standard follow until I contact the rest.
Once again, thank you for your offer and please keep patient until I contact the people to see who is still interested.

@skek, thank you very much for adding me as a maintainer!

Would you feel comfortable granting @sokru and/or myself the "Administer maintainers" permission? (Doing so would prevent us from having to file a ticket in the projectownership queue and/or reach out to you manually in the future). I understand if your answer is "no".

    Thank you again!
