There has been an 8.x-1.1 release of this module as part of 📌 Automated Drupal 10 compatibility fixes Fixed but the commit in that tag was never merged to the main 8.x branch. This means it's not possible to checkout the 8.x-1.x branch and have the 'latest' code.
Module maintainer should merge change https://git.drupalcode.org/project/node_edit_protection/-/commit/70712c9... to the main branch.
