Incorrect Attached File Continues to Show

Problem/Motivation

Thank you for this module - unfortunately it doesn't work for me - or I need a tip as to how to make it work correctly. I have content type with nodes that have attached word docs that change from time to time. With this module active and choosing to overwrite the attached file, I ran into the file not always showing the current/latest version of the .doc file.

When checking the server sure enough the latest and only version was on the server. However, when viewing on the site I can't be sure which version shows up. Sometimes it's an older one and with a screen refresh another different one shows up - but not the current one - which again is the only one on the server as far as I can tell.

I assume this is a cache issue but even clearing all caches and going back to view the attached file the correct file might not show.

Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks,
Neil

Steps to reproduce

Create Content Type with Field Type: File. Attach Word Docs. Set Manage Display format to "Embedded Microsoft Document Viewer Formatter"; View file; Then edit and upload file with same name but some changes - it will likely not appear as expected as the old version(s) may show up.

  • Sounds like a browser cache issue, tripped me up as well when starting with this module.

Thanks @ninobrownh20 for your reply. Were you able to get it to work properly? This was not an issue with I believe D8 and before. I have users still sharing that a different file pops up than what was uploaded and then next time or a browser refresh it could be even another version of the file. Very inconsistent. I don't think suggesting every time someone updates an attachment they have to clear their browsing history will work too well - or is there something else I can do in Drupal to be sure the latest is showing?
It does work with changing the file name by adding a number on it but that starts leaving useless files on server.

Looking forward to clue on this.

    Thanks,
    Neil
