Drupal 8 has been End of life since November 17, 2021, so it's better to upgrade to Drupal 9 at least.
So, I'm not sure that all features will work well for Drupal 8.x, so because of the lack of time I see no point in investing time into making support for it.
But you can try to fork the module and add support for 8.x by modifying the "core_version_requirement" value in the file "opentelemetry.info.yml" to the:
core_version_requirement: ^8 || ^9 || ^10 || ^11and check if all works well.
