4.x4.x will have a stable release before the end of 2023. Currently it is only an alpha release for testing and development purposes. Read more in the plan:#3247389: Plan for stable release.
3.x
The recommended release is 3.x which supports Drupal 10, and is the most stable. However it is not receiving new fixes (except maybe some major ones) and will never have a stable release because there are some known security risks. For upgrade from 2.x see the change record.
Therefore Simplenews_stats 3.x should either be updated to work with Simplenews 4.x as well, or to keep versioning clean and easy - a new branch 4.x should be greated to be compatible to Simplenews 4.x.
