Update to commerce_license 3.0, recurring_period is now a conflict

in the commerce_license/composer.json the following is there:

 "conflict": {
        "drupal/recurring_period": "1.*"
    }

does that mean that recurring_period is no longer needed. if so, is there an update hook to accompany the change?

Recurring_period was removed according to this issue: 📌 Remove the recurring_period dependency Fixed

BUT there are MAJOR issues upgrading. Please read through the issue and report back on which method works best for you to actually run the upgrade of commerce_license.
