the solution was:
1. use https://rtyley.github.io/bfg-repo-cleaner/
2. This specific commandbfg --delete-folders .Git --delete-files .Git --no-blob-protectionalong with generally doing the things listed on that page.@chetan - not sure what your MR is providing, but it doesn't seem related.

chetan 11 - your fork and merge request persisted this problem and does not help. This issue was about rewriting the git history of this repository to remove something git now considers corruption. Making a fork copied this corruption to another repository. Removing the
backups/.gitignorefile is not what this issue needed. I will be removing the fork. Automatically closed - issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.
