Duplicated project?

Created on 18 October 2023, about 1 year ago

I found this project in the Symfony Mailer issue queue and I was surprised because I have been following https://www.drupal.org/project/symfony_messenger for a while.

Did you know about it? What is the difference between these two? Maybe these two should be merged?

...and I have just seen this message on Drupal Slack (:

Could you please summarize the motivation and the differences also in the project's home page?
    Thank you

The work that ended up in this project was originally intended for that project. However for reasons I decided to go my own way. You can see the majority of issues here were moved from the other project. And also some early commits of mine made it into the other project.

The project page will be padded out more with this info.

Ultimately: Drupal + Symfony Messenger integration is the prime goal. Its just that I have my own vision for the integration, and this integration is largely complete.

More _ecosystem_ projects+initiatives that pull from this new work will be put out in due time.

    Thumbs up ALL on #4

Any future plans for pushing this solution to Drupal core? I assumed that symfony_messenger is going to be the next symfony_mailer like "pre-Drupal-core" experimental project... but maybe this should be that one?

Absolutely. I'm treating contrib as proving grounds for now however. I think replacing legacy queue and hook_cron would be a great thing to do.

If you want to help out, the core patches need some attention. And of course swapping out private and and contrib usages of legacy queue with messenger.
