Queue worker failure in 2.x branch on Drupal 10

Problem/Motivation

The 2.x branch of this module is meant to serve as an upgrade path to D10 for sites running any previous 2.x install or the original 1.x install. This branch is tightly coupled with the group 2.x branch. Unfortunately when I updated the 2.x branch to work with D9/D10 I failed to adequately test the queue worker functionality and it is currently failing with Drupal 10.1.3.
