Dealing with multiple terms with identical titles

I'm evaluating using this module for a project in which acronyms/initialisms are frequently used within long-form text. So frequently, in fact, that an acronym may have multiple possible definitions. For example;

"LEA" could mean either "Learning Environment Analysis" or "Local Education Agency"
"SAT" could mean either "Student Assistance Team" or "Scholastic Aptitude Test"

Today, this module only matches a single definition to an acronym, and it appears to be the last definition sorted alphabetically. Has there been any discussion around this edge case? Would it make sense to address this within the current module? I imagine that finding a way to expose multiple terms for a link or abbr display would be difficult or impossible (and breaking for many sites).

I'm considering writing a submodule to handle this for my site and imagine implementing an interface inspired by Wikipedia's Page Preview library. Maybe a CKEditor plugin where editors can more intentionally choose the right definition is the better course here.
