Make the target region for the 1st level caret bigger

Problem/Motivation

The existing caret on the 1st level items is small and sometimes it's hard for the user to click in it:

Proposed resolution

Make the button itself taking the whole height (should be 40px) and have the same width (should be 40px), so it's easier to click and more prominent when hovered:
