closing. the base plugin was written for jquery 1.9. have internalized and updated the plugin for this reason (org repo is dated..). @2.1.0 beta4

the plugin itself was written for jquery 1.9 -- too old. moderinzed (thanks chatGPT!) to jquery 3.x!
