'Field mappings' form section doesn't show a form element

I'm not familiar with this module, but I followed the instructions here and saw things in that section: https://www.drupal.org/docs/contributed-modules/external-entities/exampl... →

I assume the module works as intended, but it might need a message on the 'Field mapping' tab telling people to set the storage and save the form first.

Let me know if my assumption is correct and if I should provide a patch to provide a little more documentation on that form.

When you add a new external entity type, since it's new and you didn't save it yet, no data source (storage) has been specified (saved in the settings) yet so there's nothing to map yet. So, once you selected a storage and saved your new external entity, you have to edit it (again) and now, you'll see fields to map (at least the id, the uuid and the title).
I believe youy didn't save the external entity before trying to set the mapping and that's why you just got the text about how to map field values or constant. It'll make more sense once you got a storage set unless I didn't get your real problem and then, you should provide "steps to reproduce". 'hope that will help.

Good one @guignonv in your patch you show the message to choose a storage plugin after the plugin has been chosen. I think we could hide the field mapping form and tell the user to save the entity type in order to be able to add a mapping.
