Focal Point works great when author has a chance to set it. However, sometimes when website has a lot of existing content, there is no chance to set a focal point for each image. The alternative is "Scale and Smart Crop" option delivered by "Image effects" module. But it means, we need to decide which effect we are going to use:
- enable focal point for authors and leave all old articles cropped with focal point not setup
- or enable Scale and Smart Crop, but without giving authors option to use focal point
Setting both effects in image style won't work, as the one which is first will already crop the image, leaving nothing for 2nd effect
I think, what would be great feauture is to add "Don't crop if focal point is not set" option for the focal point effect.
If this option is checked:
- image will be cropped by this effect if focal point was set by the author
- image won't be cropped if focal point was not set (is in default position), leaving cropping for the next effect in style
