Date validation check

We are using this field on nodes that get created programmatically via the Migrate module.
We are experiencing issues when the date value is not set correctly.
E.g. in the source data an editor set a date to 31st of june - whereas june only has 30 days.

This results in a fatal PHP error in the field formatter.

I will work towards making sure the source data passes more validation checks, but it might be good to catch this error in the field formatter as well. to avoid fatal errors.
