Linkit for Link Field in 6.x – Media Entity direct download not working

Problem/Motivation

As a site user, I want to use the Linkit for Link field autocomplete to a media entity and have the resultant link be a direct download to the file. Right now we are linked to the "/media/[mid]" URL.

Steps to reproduce

1. Confirm "Standalone Media URL" box is checked at /admin/config/media/media-settings.
2. Confirm Linkit Profile has a media matcher and "Direct URL to Media File Entity" selected.
3. Confirm Link field has a form display of "Linkit"
4. Confirm Link field has a display of "Linkit"
5. Populate link field with media URL manually or via autocomplete.
6. Confirm on FE that URL is rendered the same "/media/[mid]" (even after a cache clear)

I saw a bunch of issues where this was fixed in 5.x but nothing about this working in 6.x. I looked pretty heavily through the issue queues and followed all of the steps to try and get this to work so hopefully this isn't PEBKAC :-/. I'm currently running 6.0.0-rc2 on Drupal 9.5.10. Thanks for reporting this. This problem/bug is valid, and it's due to the same root cause as what is described in 🐛 Direct URL to media file entity does not work because relative URL does not pass URL path validation Fixed -- a validation problem.

I'll go ahead and close this issue as a duplicate, and mark that issue as Priority: Major, as it needs some kind of resolution.
