remote_id - Could we use reference_no instead of ticket?

Could we use reference_no instead of ticket for remote_id? By the description in the Moneris documentation, it sounds more applicable:

Terminal used to process the transaction, followed by the shift, batch and sequence number

This data is typically used to reference transactions on the host systems, and must be displayed on any receipt presented to the customer

This information should be stored by the merchant

Have a look at these two screenshots, one from Drupal and one from Moneris. This is the number the user would expect to to cross reference.
