Hide photo gallery displayed at the bottom of articles

Problem/Motivation

I am establishing a photo-site and have installed PhotoSwipe to have image galleries on certain pages. I have the problem that all images uploaded to an article is clustered on top of each other at the bottom of the articles, an I would like to show a "front image" of the image gallery in the article and when a user clicks the image the image gallery with rest of the images are displayed. How do I do this?

Thank you, could you please create a test to show this issue? The module seems simple but has become quite complex for the many cases including media, responsive images etc. so we need tests to ensure nothing breaks in the future and proof something is broken.
