cannot upgrade to 3.7

trying to update for drupal 9.4

getting an error:

drupal/smart_date[3.7.0, ..., 3.7.1] require php >=8.0 -> your php version (7.4; overridden via config.platform, actual: 8.1.14) does not satisfy that requirement.

Upgrade path
It affects the ability to upgrade Drupal sites to a new major version. Preferred over version-specific tags such as D7 upgrade path.

Do you need to specify the PHP version in your composer.json? If not then the simple fix would be to remove that.

There is code in the 3.7.x branch that does depend on PHP 8 or newer.
