Both modules serve the purpose of providing an added layer of security to Drupal websites, but there are a few key differences between the two.
Firstly, the Drupal 2FA module supports a wider range of two-factor authentication methods (more than 15 methods) such as SMS, email, and hardware tokens, in addition to the standard TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password) authentication. This allows users to choose the method that best suits their needs.
miniOrange 2FA module has certain unique features that make it stand out. For instance, the 2FA module allows you to assign a particular 2FA method to a specific role(s). If you wish to authenticate one role with SMSs and another with a TOTP method, it can be conveniently achieved with the 2FA module.
Secondly, our Drupal 2FA module has been designed with ease of use in mind. The setup process is straightforward and intuitive, making it easier for users to configure their two-factor authentication settings.
Also, unlike TFA, the Drupal 2FA module does not have any third-party dependencies. No external modules or libraries are required to get the module working.
I hope this answers your question. I'd recommend you review the following comparison document → for a better perspective of the distinctions between the two modules. If you have any additional doubts, contact us at drupalsupport@xecurify.com.
