How to combine flagged nodes and flagged comments

I am unable to create a combined view and I don't know if I'm setting the combined view up incorrectly or if I'm trying to do something the module isn't designed to do.

Context: I have two flags, one is a comment upvote flag, one is a node upvote flag.
Steps:

1. Create a comments view with a relationship to the comment upvote flag. Row style = fields, unformatted list.
2. Create a node view with a relationship to the node upvote flag. Row style = fields, unformatted list.

These views display the expected results. The relationship is set to show only the comments or nodes that have the flag set.

3. Two attempts to create a combined view
a. A new node view (row style = fields), add the combined view field, select both of the views above. This lists all the published nodes. I could add a filter to show flagged nodes only, but it's not clear how I would get flagged comments to show. (That's an understatement. I don't have the vaguest idea of how to do that.) The query doesn't have any UNION in it.

b. Edit the flagged nodes view, adding the combined view field and selecting the flagged comments view. This seems to break the view. I don't see any results or errors and no query displays.

I see this in the readme...

Combined views only render fields also included in the base view. For example, if the base view uses the
rendered entity field, each combined view should use the same rendered entity field. Support for rendering specific fields is planned.

Does this mean I can't combine nodes and comments in a view because they don't the same fields?
