Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user

Created on 16 January 2023, over 2 years ago

I've received a warning email from Google regarding duplicate content in relation to a calendar page on the website. I currently have Calendar 8.x-1.0-alpha4 on my Drupal 9 site to displaying events by month on the website.

After investigating the issue, I see that when you open mydomain.com/calendar it correctly displays all the events from the current month. If I click on the navigation to display next month, it opens the page mydomain.com/calendar/202302 - which also correctly displays all the events from next month. Then when I click on Previous in the navigation, it shows the current month again, but now the URL is has changed to mydomain.com/calendar/202301. So the current month is available at two URLs which is why Google is marking it as duplicate content.

Is there a way to always have the current month as mydomain.com/calendar when you get to it via the navigation buttons on the calendar page? Or is there some way to resolve the issue so that Google does not consider it as duplicate content?

Thanks
