Consider adding a Project Logo

Created on 2 December 2022, over 2 years ago
Updated 24 March 2023, about 2 years ago

Problem/Motivation

Projects are encouraged to adopt a logo to assist with browsing. The Project Browser initiative displays project cards with prominent logos. Browsing projects on Drupal.org may adopt a similar approach in future.

Steps to reproduce

Install Project Browser and search for Calendar View. A screenshot is displayed above the project name, which isn't very eyecatching.

Proposed resolution

I have designed a proposed logo:

If you are happy with it, add it to the project page. At present Project Browser uses the first image on the project page, though there is discussion of adding a dedicated field.

  • Thanks a lot for reporting this issue.

I have added the logo as the first image on the main page - as explained in the documentation .

I can't see the new image yet but I guess this is a cache-related issue.

Keeping this issue as "Needs review" to test it again later.

The project browser runs off a new Drupal 9 endpoint that is intended to take over the current D7 Drupal.org projects repository. As a result it is currently run of a periodically updated copy of the module data, that is updated roughly monthly. When Project Browser moves to a stable release, the new endpoint will be running off live data.

I didn't realise when I suggested this logo that the method Project Browser fetches logos is changing from the first image on the project page to use the file "logo.png" in the project repository. This has recently been adopted on the D7 site and is shown to the left of the project title (as can be seen on the Project Browser page ).

Hopefully the documentation will be updated soon. I've proposed a change that is pending review. Update documentation for module maintainers with location of logo.png file Fixed

  • Logo appear correctly in Gitlab and on d.o thus I guess it will appear correctly in the Project Browser page too.

    Marking this issue as fixed.

    Thanks again!

I think the new D9 APIs are going live next week. I'm not sure when the Project Browser will actually start taking the logo from repo instead of the first image, but it's coming soon.

  • Automatically closed - issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.
