The goal is to be able to query the data using JSON, but I suspect it might be best to wait on core to finish adding the JSON data type.
The work to add JSON storage could go further.
Add a field type that extends the NativeJson field from JSON Field.
Provide a patch.
A new field would be available for storing data in raw JSON format.
