In this oversimplified test, WebAssembly PHP is two times slower than the native build.

Try clicking around in https://playground.wordpress.net/ — page loads take multiple seconds on my gigabit-connected 16" 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro 😅
Before we'd invest a lot of time in this, I think we should be confident that it can actually be made fast.

in 3 seconds one has a compiled functionality of a webserver, a database, php, wordpress, being logged in, and having the page served as it is usable. https://www.webpagetest.org/result/230718_BiDc6K_5HE/
Now how many minutes did it take to install drupal, log in at a page and serve it? Now indeed, clicking around will cost you 5-10 seconds per page. But given that one doesnt have to wait minutes to install and serving pages logged in at drupal isnt exactly spiffy, I think this gives the new user a better experience.
