The current javascript was originally written more than 10 years ago and is outdated and difficult to maintain.
Suggestions to completely rewrite it:
- Require Drupal 10 so we can ditch any and all code designed for IE.
- Rewrite to ES6
- Use modern JS design patterns
I'm putting this as low prio since Drupal 10 does not have an official release yet.
