Is this still an issue? I can add a URL without any path ('matomo.php'), e.g. https://matomo.example.com for it to work well.
The module's current settings form assumes that the Matomo API endpoint uses the default "matomo.php" filename. For cases in which this file has been renamed from the default, the form should allow the user to specify the full endpoint path.
