Enabling Field as Source causes Unexpected Errors on field edits

Problem/Motivation

If field is enabled as a source entity, changing any field on an entity will cause errors similar to:

Unexpected error during {{update action info}} for field.field.{{field identifie}}: Getting the base fields is not supported for
entity type Field.

Steps to reproduce

  • Enable field as a source entity in the entity usage config screen
  • Go to admin->structure->content types->{{content type}}->manage fields
  • Edit a field
  • Save (don't need to change anything)

Proposed resolution

Remove field as source option?
