Ive installed the Messag stack (core, notify and subscribe) and the Message UI module and I dont really know how to use it. There is quite a lot of configuration for the message stack (core, notify, subscribe) and Im not finding the interface very intuitive. This is my first impression and submit in the hope others may find it useful if finding the interface also less than intuitive.
A few reactions:
1. On installation there are three templates installed that appear to respond to system events - create comment, create node and user register. If I edit any of those there is no obvious setting for the event that generates the message. I thought perhaps this was happening in Rules but there are no message generation rules added on installation of the message stack. So where are the events being selected/defined within the templates?
2. I tried adding the Messages block to the sidebar. I dont know what that is supposed to show, but it doesnt show anything at all.
3. I have no idea from the UI how to add a subscribe "thing" (button? flag? link? its not documented) to a node to allow users to subscribe to it. The URL /admin/config/message/message-subscribe doesnt provide any indication how to set subscriptions on nodes/comments/user views/ etc.I guess Rules or another workflow module could do this? I found this link: https://www.drupal.org/node/2180149 → but it tells me what I can do with subscribe, not how to do it.
Summary: At this stage I want to stick a subscribe flag (button? link?) on a node and generate messages (configure emails? sms?) for users when content changes. I cant find an easy way to do this.
At the moment Im just flicking through the config screens trying to make sense of them...
