Edit an existing entiry

I was thinking about a solution for a certain website. And I thought it would be nice if one could edit an existing entity by submitting a webform.

When working with this module it means that you have webform submissions and entities on your website that are kind of related to each other. Or at least they work together. Im my case a user can submit a webform with a lot of information. Then this module creates a node that is used to track the processing of the webform submission by other users with a specific role. And the node also displays some info to the users about the webform submission.

Now in my case preriodically the user has to resubmit a new webform. And the data on that webform submission should be mapped to the previously created content.

we have the same situation on our website.

Has anything new happened in regards to this issue/problem? We would like to have webform submission check a certain field (a unique field in the system), if that field value is already present in the database, content is updated, else - new created.

Inspecting the code i could not find a way of doing it via the hook. Webform submission is always generating a new content
