We are using this feature now provided by facets out of the box without any contribs. I would recommend looking at what facets provides for date hierarchy and see if this module is now redundant or still provides added value.
Since the 2.x branch of facets supports hierarchy plugins. this module here should leverage it. On the other hand there's not much code needed to provide hierarchical date facets out-of-the box in facets itself. Please review the corresponding patch:

This patch might also avoid some issue that are mentioned in this queue here.
I don't want to compete with facet_granular_date. I thank you for providing an intermediate solution. But I think that there're advantages in the future to have the functionality back in facets itself.
