Rewrite using file_mdm, or move functionality into that module

I'd like to propose to use the file_mdm Drupal module for EXIF reading instead of implementing it manually. The basic idea of file_mdm is to concentrate all the efforts of getting metadata out of files into a single module which anybody else can then just call as a service. This makes a lot of sense to me.
