I had the same error shallow debuging indicates problem in Group module. More can be seen here:

Visiting on $BASE_URL/jsonapi/file/file throws Internal Server Error 500.
Enabled jsonapi with file fields and data does it for me in Opigno distribution ( https://www.drupal.org/project/opigno_lms → )
